I don't know, is it another reality musical thing? They don't really seem to care if you can act, look at Connie Fisher.

Yes, acting can be taught but I'm sure acting experience/skills would add to your chances of success. Prepare a monologue in case you need it - being unprepared for an audition is an instant rejection.

Connie did have to act - remember the exercises where they were seeing how they communicated with children etc. Every role is different, some will have lots of singing n dancing, or some might have mostly dialogue. Either way you're still gonna have to know how to convey emotion.
