Because Christmas is a normal day like any other day, therefore people die.

It being Winter can't be a very major factor as its summer on the other side of the globe.
The holidays are just like every other day and people die every day.
However a few christmas holiday ones that may add to it are:
    - Car accidents (lots of people driving around to go on holiday/visit relatives etc.)
    - High uses of electricity (lights, displays etc. causing fires)
    - Jealousy over what people get (murders, robberies etc.)
Some parts of the southern hemisphere (like Australia) - bushfires due to hot summer weather.
Some parts of northern hemisphere - cold/icy weather causing more accidents, spread of some diseases like the flu and cold-weather specific diseases like hypothermia.
That might help your answer, really we're killing ourselves.

Ouch, it seems very nasty when people die around Christmas. Car accidents are one of the most awful and common ones I hear around where I am in the world.

Why are you calling god a "she"? Excluding the fact that he isn't real anyway; god is a man.
