    research not cheating, providing you dont plagarise the research but just use to get a different aspect on the text then its fine.

    no, i do that all the time. if i don't understand a part of a book (or my mind wanders while i'm reading and i don't realize it) i go to sparknotes.

    Absolutely agreed with everyone here - a definite no. If you're not in exam conditions, then you are not cheating by looking up some information before hand. It's a good strategy before the exam starts. Heaps of people do it where I live.
