Alpha particles are very ionising. However, they arn't as penetrating as Beta or Gamma. They are not harmless outside the body as they can't penetrate through skin, however, inside the body they are extremelly harmful. So be careful you don't swallow it or anything lol. ^^. And I know I done rubbish on my Physics test tbh..

We learnt about this in science. The smoke traps the alpha rays from conecting to the box and then it sets the alarm off.
