I don't see why the thought had even crossed his mind seeing as he reported it.

    I can see why though.

You wouldn't hack a bank, steal all the money and say "see, you are unsecure".

Still breaking the law whether you are trying to be helpful or not. But yeah, he should be unbanned simply because he isn't some noob who would go out and hack it without valid reasoning.
But the thing is, he didnt "steal all the money". In your terms: he got into the bank and then told the bank that he managed to access it but didn't actually steal anything.

And the fact that DaveTaylor is a very well respected person on here should back his case up even further.

stop saying admins are power hungry. It's their job to protect everyones data on the forum.

They are investigating and are seeing what can be done about it. Stop whining because he got banned. He hacked it and got punished, whether it was good intentions or not he still break the ToS for the site.

He is a good member, so he probably will be unbanned. They can't give out special favours just because of that though.

He was showing them how easy it was. It's like telling a bank manager "I can get into the bank," the bank manager saying you can't and then the tester doing it. No harm what-so-ever, considering there was no 'money' stolen.

    Valid points.

It's still the same act as doing it with intent to harm.
You did that to a bank manager you would get disciplinery action for doing it. But less than someone who stole.

I'm not saying he should remain banned. I'm against the ban. But the staff have to ensure he is safe, regardless of forum status.

Seeing the conversations with Dave this is just rediculous, on MADs part. And once again MAD is trying to sweep HIS mistakes under the rug.

... You're rather pessimistic The fact is, he didn't steal information, he was doing it for a good cause, he didn't destroy anything and he proved a point that no-one bothered to deal with. Why look for a problem that doesn't exist?
