    Ok, if you havnt got your disk, or you dont know the serial number you used when you registerd your copy of windows 2000 then the best thing to do is to download it illegaly and put it on a disk. Downloads:

    If he's using WIn 2000 i very much doubt he can run vista.

    so i downloaded it onto a disk do i just put the disk into the laptop?

    You downloaded in just an hour? Fair enough, never downloaded a OS so I wouldnt know how long it would take. But if its an .ISO file burn it using Alchohol 120% or something, or just burn the files, put the disc in, then make the laptop/computer boot to disc and delete the Old windows copy then reinstall it.
