dunno. he/she probs takes skin samples, does some tests and tells u the cause. the dermo may be able to give u a cause for the skin problem just by looking at your skin, asking u about ur eating habits etc.etc.

just go to one through your doctors as nothing else is working (i presume).

Prescribe you medicaton like topical gel and antibiotics that you can't buy in shops. And stuff like clearasil generally doesn't work for anything more than the odd spot every now and then.

Many people can get spots because of certain types of food they eat? If i ever had chips from a chippy, i get a load appearing the next morning, they're a nightmare to get rid of. So take a look at your diet.

Also stress can cause spots. My cousin gets them down his back when he is under pressure and stressed. So think about that. Theres not much you can do for stress though. Its one of them things you cant live with, but you cant live without

My last suggestion is dehydration. I remember reading on here once that someone had started drinking more water, nearer to the 8 glasses a day mark? He lost loads of his spots, his skin cleared up really well and fast. So try drinking more water too

All untrue, the only direct cause of spots is dirt on your skin getting trapped in your pours. All stuff such as bad diet or stress is just a myth and things parents or grand parents say to get you to stop eating junk My doctor sat for about 10 minutes trying to explain the exact cause of spots. Basically when dirt gets trapped in your pours it gets cover by the natural oil your skin makes. This then means it can't get out and because your face is cover in bacteria (the good kind) they get trapped with the dirt and start to react. That's why spot enlarge and go red.

However here's the best solution I know of. I suffered with spots for a year or so and they go so bad that I would wake up covered in blood. Go to your doctors and ask for a bottled solution called Zineryt. Basically you apply it twice a day, in the morning and night. You leave it on for at least 3 hours at a time then wash off. What it does is make the spots harden which after a week or so start to basically dissolve or fall off. This sometimes causes scaring if you picked your spots, so you then have to get cream which clears up the scaring. The solution itself comes in a small bottle which you apply directly onto you face. Means you're not touching it with your hand or anything, comes straight from the bottle. It stings a bit for 5 minutes or so and if you touch your face while you have it on you'll have funny tasting fingers. Other than that it's a pretty good solution.

    Hope that helps

That normally happens if you dont wash your hands afterwards then touch ur face because the greese and stuff clogs up ur skin cells and pore openings and that like makes perfect conditions for the bacteria that makes spots to grow and the oil trapped their doesnt help either.

I can relate to this problem, because I had acne too. I kept on getting creams from my GP and nothing was working, no matter how strong the cream was. Here's what you do, there's one word that could change your life, as it has done mine: Roaccutane. Mention that medication to your GP, and see if you can take it. You can't get it prescribed from your GP, but only from a dermatologist. Nevertheless, ask them about it.

I took Roaccutane for 6-8 months & my skin has been clear since. I don't actually have to wash my face at all, except I only wash it when I go into the shower. I've had about... 2-3 whiteheads since I came off the treatment, and they vanished within a couple of days anyway? Mind you, the treatment finished around mid last year. You can see that around 10 months has really done something. You don't feel the full results either until 2 years on apparently.

They'll ask you to take blood since the medication is somewhat dangerous. I actually went through hell during my medication, since it gives you severly flaky skin/hair & really bad chapped lips. You just have to cope with it, and it worn off for me after I took the medication in a matter of 2-3 weeks. The side-effects are seriously dangerous, I must warn you about that.

    Ask about it though:

That's basically all you need to know about it + includes the side-effects. It's got many names but in England, Roaccutane is the name. I'd seriously consider it, since a couple of months actually helps you for the rest of your life. Yeah, that's right, I'm 'cured' of spots.

You can't drink/do drugs on it. It's called accutane over here.
I'm at a point in my life where I don't care if you like me or you don't. If you like me, cool. If you don't, meh.
