    Changing between full or half duplex can sometimes improve the connection,
    but it can also depend on the type of card installed...... it doesn't hurt

    I know, I've done it, VM techs said that ^ which I see as it works, and some other newsgroup posts, VM techs confirmed it working.

    As far as i can tell it is for network cards that can't manage to auto detect the speed oby their own accord.
