i think it's quite a disappointing album, based on the strength of the title track which is a tune. i usually trust nme and pitchfork, but in no way are pitchfork right on this. it's a 6 or 7, and no way better than either arctic monkeys albums. my problem with pitchfork is they seem to have a big disapproval of british indie.

pitchfork also hype up new bands and give them huge ratings, like hercules & love affair's album which got 9.1 i think? i reckon that album is so overated. then again nme are kinda the same, it all depends on the reviewer. nme can hype up a band for months, then give their album like 6/10 - it all depends who's reviewing it.

i agree that they've left it a bit late, but i saw them last week and the new songs sounded pretty good and were back to the old style of that boy, that girl - which i'm sure nme loved?!

nah, i think this is the right time for hadouken! to release the album. a lot of the hype about them as died down, and they've already matured as a band.
and yeh, nme loved that boy that girl. hadouken! re-recorded it, and it sounds ace.

true dat. i still need to get that h&la album, they're on dfa and usually they put out good stuff. im not sure what to expect from it. but when pitchfork is right, as they were with giving "sound of silver" by lcd soundsystem a 9.2 last year, they're friggen right. but sometimes they're wrong, like how they gave that panda bear album last year a 9.4. i listened to it a few times, it's pretty, but its nothing amazing. i don't always agree, but i'm in huge debt because of all the bands ive discovered because of them; wolf parade, trail of dead, the unicorns, los campesinos!, vampire weekend, the microphones, broken social scene; just to name a few. they only have discontent for stereotypical british indie. there is some british indie they like, like los campesinos!, but they usually just brush off bands like does it offend you, yeah.

but what i do like about them, even if i dont agree, is how unbias they are, really. if there's music they think is crap, even if it's from a band they like, they'll rate it accordingly. they gave sonic youth, a band they named #1 for best album of the 80's, a 0.0 on one of their albums a few years back.

but yeh, i can sympthise, the amount of bands that i have discovered via www.hypem.com is incredible. i just wish i had the money to buy all the music, but unfortunately, everywhere near me either wants a waitress, not a waiter or just doesnt need help "/

yeah, ive got around 100 albums. i work at a coffee shop, and we get tips, mostly change that people don't want. i get a pretty decent amount a month, so i go to a coinstar machine and turn it into amazon cash. got plenty of albums like that. it used to be i bought albums very rarely, only if i really really wanted it. now i buy them really casually.

and i was really skeptical of vampire weekend too. i heard the "mansard roof" demo and was like "meh," but when they gave it a good review (sometimes they hype up a band and end up actually trashing the album) i bought it. needless to say, i wasn't disappointed at all.

haha, when i first heard mansard roof i was like "what the..", but then i downloaded the album to check it out and i love it. bit bored of a-punk now, but it's still a good album. the b-side to mansard roof should be on the album though - it's called boston or ladies of cambridge (originally called boston, they changed it). try and get hold of it if you can, good track.
