R&B singer Usher has explained why he shouted "hello Manchester" at Radio 1's Big Weekend show in Maidstone.

The popstar was greeted by boos from several audience members at the festival after he opened his performance with the blunder.

However, the singer insisted he hadn't forgotten where he was playing, claiming instead that he was paying tribute to his favourite football team Manchester United.

Usher said that he is "good friends" with United and England defender Rio Ferdinand and argued he was just voicing his support for the soccer club, who won the Premier League at the weekend.

like i dont alredi know this, i was one of the ones booing lol, if u beleive that story then u cud beleive enything, even if that was the case it wud hav been completely out of context making him look like a fool anyway, plus after he said it he didnt say anything else about it and just carried on, untill evri1 started booing :>

Are you mad?! Usher is a legend, Yeah is a club anthem now due to its success. And Chris Brown? Chris Brown brings out hit single after hit single and is equally amazing.

Do any of you understand how tiring a concert tour is and that people can make themselves ill touring? Now imagine being worn down and tired and making that mistake. Big deal.
