That is the stupidest come back I have ever heard from you Tom, it's completely irrelevant, of course you have to update for a new hardware, thats like saying "lets leave nvidia drivers installed for a ATi card" it won't work, firefox 2 still works, as does firefox 3, you can cancel a update on iTunes as such you could on iTunes.
