One thing I've noticed is the first one actually took less time to make than the second one. The first one is just text.

That's not part of the logo, that's just the banner it was sitting on. The reason for the logo change is because it has to look good on print and signs which the current one doesn't. As we're not just based on the internet anymore.
That's the logo on it's own. Also the new attempt on it's own;

Hmm, what settings do you have the outer glow at? Also try removing the 1px border.That's not part of the logo, that's just the banner it was sitting on. I prefer the first concept than the second. The first one has the smart idea yet the second is more practical. I don't like the shaddow on the second neither, it looks wierd.
I got bored so I spent three minutes curing my bordem in photoshop. I'm not saying you should use it, nor is it perfect.

Really don't like that Craig. It does not look professional at all, good for a logo for an application but not a professional 'brand'.
Based upon the first one without the background doesnt look that great, I would have to say the 2nd greg as its the only one out of the 2 that looks like a logo.
