Well I wouldnt reccomend it for a first gig.

It really depends on what your limits are as a person, right up against the rail has its benefits of being close to the band but you are likely to get squashed by the crowd mass behind you which is an issue if your slightly claustrophobic or generally don't like being hot and sweaty, (or sharing bodily secretions with other people which I have had to do many a times at festivals and gigs.)

It also gets very hot in that area and if you do leave it is unlikely that you will get to the same spot again.

Standing right at the back isnt fun either, yes its nearer to the Loo's and bar but you will have that annoying 6'5" person and his lanky mates blocking your view. We don't know where they come from but our theory is they are employed by the organisers to block your view so you must attend again.

If you want to make a bid for a little closer I suggest either join behind a group of people heading forward or try and cut sideways into a crowd it is far more effective than going from the back forward.

As for what to do, my suggestion though I in no way advocate underage drinking (if that is the case) is to get reasonably tipsy before entering the venue and therefore keep yourself topped up inside therefore being cheaper overall but more importantly, its easier to go with the flow. (It seems like an obscure phrase but you will understand when you are there)

Other than that, enjoy your gig I am sure many more are to come.
