Because production companies are crying about an extra $1,000,000 they aren't getting.

Yeah probably. In that case, they might as well make the internet for military use only, as it was originally..

It's old news really, this contains nothing which hasn't been said before:

The government did an enquiry on file sharing and the outcome was that it needed to be tackled. The government pretty much said that if the ISPs don't begin combating it, they'll introduce laws forcing them to combat illegal file sharers. It'll generally covers music and often movies, the gaming industry is becoming increasingly annoyed so that'll be tackled more seriously soon.

Virgin media are currently doing three-strikes and out like the French do, on your third letter they'll allegedly cut you off. At the moment though just one set of letters has been sent out. Other ISPs are beginning to show interest in stopping it and a lot of the smaller ISPs have been tackling the issue for years.

Like I always say, don't attract attention to yourself, if your downloading 30GB a week then it's going to look rather dodgy. If you do it in moderation it's unlikely you'll get caught and if you do, either change ISP or keep risking it as it will take three letters.
