While you're in a private chat with someone you can only hear people through the TV really dull. I don't think it's possible.

Im sure it works for me, haven't tried in a while, but im sure that play through both works fine, have you tried play through speakers?
im not sure which i use.

When I'm playing on live and have a private chat going with Myke, I get him through my headset and also the tv. But I also get the game channel chat through the tv as well. By looking at it the private chat can only go through both, if you still want to listen to the game channel. If you get me.
