ok, i done that, still doesn't work. Well it worked, half way through a game and it froze. all other games we've tried work fine. Might get a new ps3.

Try deleting your game data. (Not saved data). But the only reason why that worked for me on Motorstorm is because i downloaded some dlc before installing the update i needed to run it.

I had the problem with my battlefield bad company.
Basically go to saved data and delete the fifa 09 files. NOT the game saves just the data. It should say "Corrupted Data" if you click on it. Delete this. Restart your pc
and your done, it should work fine
