If not, then its a 1st Generation

Yeah, that is quite annoying. http://www.runkeeper.com/ is a similar thing, but of course you don't get access to the Nike+ system which most people use it for.
Also, @OP - What you could do is pick up a 1st Gen iPod Nano from eBay and then use that for the Nike+ system
