smacking is actually effective
my parents did it and ive never been in any trouble of any sort
If I didn't have my dad chasing after me with a slipper as a youngster, then god knows where I would be now...

I was smacked as a kid by my parents, quite hard in some cases - I've turned out fine, in fact, I think it benefited me; it definately taught me what I shouldn't be doing. But I wouldn't smack my kids - probably because I experienced it first hand.On one hand, smacking kids is never the answer. It just teaches them that violence sorts out things, when infact, it makes it worse. Also if you are smacked at the age of lets say 4, it can give you terrible memories of your parents when you grow up. In extreme cases, (and they are very extreme) people can be traumatized by it (although this is usually in abusive cases).
However, on the other hand you feel it can be the answer. For example, if you go through the supermarket and see some little brat screaming and stamping his/her feet on the floor for sweets, you can think to yourself 'omg if he was mine i would have belted him'.
In my opinion, light smacking should be allowed. But thats all, light smacking.

Oh god, you have something against me over my views on EMA.
Yeah, capital punishment is the best way forward for children. If I seriously thought that it had a negative mental or physical effect on me then I wouldn't have posted it...

Because not everyones the same. Different people react in different ways, and different people are influenced by different things. I don't think it's just about so called 'abuse' but also psychological effects. The ones that are affected and 'don't turn out fine' most likely aren't going to say, ' i got smacked as a kid and because of that i am a nutter'. I think you gotta look at both sides of the argument, but i still agree with you, within reason.

Smacking the kid doesn't help. If you leave a bruise on your own kid you can get done.
Tbh your dad chasing you with a slipper proberly did you the good.
