my mac mini came with an adaptor for a vga monitor in the box...
then again, i've had it just short of a year.
Sorry but I don't have a clue what you're asking, could you explain better?
All I know is, if you have a MB/P with a Mini DisplayPort and you get the MDP/DVI adaptor, you can't then use a DVI to VGA adaptor because the MDP/DVI will drop the analogue signals to make it purely digital (what comes out of the MDP on your MB is DVI-I (Analogue and Digital)) you will need a direct MDP/VGA adaptor because of the way Apple did this.
i've been here for over 8 years and i don't know why
Apple are like all companies, they charge for their products. Microsoft charge £137.01 for their basic operating system and £225.10 for their ultimate OS package. Yet Apple only charge £83 for their full operating system. So Microsoft are just in the wrong as much as Apple.
Apple have went with the Mini Display Port to start standardising everything across their own range. I don't see why that's a problem since that generally doesn't affect Windows or Linux users as it's only the Apple customers who need to comply. It may be a ***** now but it will eventually be a great help.
For instance the fight between Firewire and USB is a *****, where I would have to scramble through tons of cables just to get the right one. I'm now just sticking to USB as it's more recognised. Apple are just trying to do this with their own choice as it suits their new ranges needs.
I know it's ridiculous the price they charge, it's ridiculous. I'm waiting for the $5 Mini Displayport -> HDMI comes out from a third party (forgot the company name)
That went fast.

Go for OEM then? :/ £130 for Ultimate, £80 for Home Premium.
Nobody was complaining at prices of an OS, you can pick-up an OEM copy of Windows Vista for around £70 and with a copy of Windows you can put it on virtually any computer, unlike OS X which you can only use to upgrade the OS on a Macintosh computer. Apple do not need to start 'standardising' things, it's unlikely many monitor companies will choose this over VGA or DVI as they can simply buy adaptors and there's more money to be made with Windows & Linux computers. Much like Firewire, I doubt it will 'eventually' be a great help and HDMI is the future along with some other HD connector I forgot the name ofApple are like all companies, they charge for their products. Therefore Microsoft are not as bad as Apple, it's not even like MS sells much in the way of computer hardware other than mice and keyboards, which are necessary to use a computer.
I also don't understand your point? Apple began the hardware Monopoly a long time ago and Microsoft don't really sell computer hardware to the same extent as Apple so they cannot monopolise. You just seem like an ill-informed idiot who's trying to start an argument or is just another unneeded fanboy.
Well at least third party manufactures can easily make Mini Displayport Hardware unlike they could with Firewire, Firewire was not an open format so companies wanting to make Firewire products would have to pay Apple a fee, luckily with Mini Displayport anyone can create stuff for it.
