That's not the point at all. It wasn't to show how "*+*_HiLaRiOuS*+&+" religion is, but rather to prove a point that we have to teach kids things that can be proved as opposed to just believed. The main issue supposely was that the theory of intelligent design used ambiguous references to an unspecified "Intelligent Designer" to avoid court rulings against using creationism as a science, but in doing so, that left the role of "Intelligent Designer" open to anything, and thats where the joke comes from.
