Errr....companies always do this. Xbox released the "Xbox crystal" and Nintendo released different colours of the original DS such as Blue and Pink. They all sold well.

The controller isn't bad
I definitely prefer my White Wii rather than the Black.

Here are the original proposed wii colours:
The black one was the one they originally used to show and what people expected it to be released as. They obviously opted for white in the end.
