Ive just pulled nine apart to check and the socket on the motherboard says primary IDE (mines 40GB aswell) but the HDD itself has no mention of IDE but instead says ATA.If your current drive is 40GB then I'd make the assumption that it's an IDE drive. The maximum capacity IDE drives are 750GB (as far as I know) which are fairly expensive.
There's also the issue of whether your case has the space to fit another hard drive or your motherboard can take another.
J.
ATA is IDE.
No way to get around that then?
I think an ext would just be easier and save me and you all a lot of bother lol.

Alternatively, if you want 1TB here is one for £68.99

Fact is, with externals its just a hard drive inside some casing with a USB interface chip on it. If you want to convert an external to an internal, just pop it out of the casing and slide it into ur compute. Thats what I did with my 1TB, saves me doing alot.
This is my computer is small, made from laptop components and the case isnt all that big.
Depending on how big n that it is then I may get one to go inside it, if not then Ill just get an external.
THANKS GUYS x
