Booked 2 weeks in advance, Wolverhampton to Preston, Preston to Blackpool and return - adult price, £8.

I sugest you get a child ticket to Blackpool. It is much cheaper, It cost me from Stoke On Trent around £12.50 for 2 tickets (Return). It probably is around £5-6 pound more expensive from Wolverhampton, but if you look under 16, you can get away with it.
