I think you are mistaken, as he hasnt signed the contract yet, they only offered it. They didnt offer Monty or Harmison the contract, hence it says they have been dropped.
Again, as I said, you cant seriously doubt every newspaper? They are quoting his agent, and if they falesly quote it, then they can be sued, which newspapers try and avoid.

tbh mate i dont really think anyone cares if its true or not he has been a great servant to england and im thankful for what he done in 2005. He can do what he likes and who blames him for wanting to have more money?
