In the other thread, you thought he was supposed to be dutch. No, hes South African.

I also questioned the language barriers (or lack of), but then thought of the amount of time they had been there. Although I was only aware of the time lapse when it was mentioned by characters. There was nothing visual to suggest time had progressed; none of the characters seemed to age apart from the documentary scenes towards the end. I wouldn't have expected the same team of people (soldiers etc) on the case that far ahead either. Also, the alien's child didn't grow up? Of course we can assume they age much slower than us I guess .
I dont get you? From where we start properly watching, something like 76 hours elapses. It all happens on the same day. The bits at the start just introduce us to the story and situation.

I would still like to have seen a much bigger difference between the aliens' general language structure versus our own, but that's a separate issue really.
As said, the humans have learnt alien and vice versa.

Also, I found it odd how the Nigerians decided to live in the alien camp in the first place. Of course in real life, the US (and possibly UK) government would have stormed in from the word go back in South Africa .
The lady in the film said that the nigerians are pretty much con men. And they saw an opportunity in that alien camp to sell cat food for extortionate prices. AND they wanted to horde all the alien weapons. Basically, they survived in the slum, which means it's fairly lawless.

All in all I found it fairly emotional and I reckon it was much better than I expected.
    Yeah me too.

I know, he just had a Dutch sounding name. My point was his accent sounded like a mix of many accents.

Oh I see, so from where they first try to approach them with their eviction notices up to when he turns into one of them, is the same couple of days? Didn't realise that.

I know, that's not my point. If I were creating a fictional alien species, their discourse wouldn't be so much like our own, is all I meant. It wouldn't be so simple.

Yeah I just thought it was strange how they did so at the beginning before they knew what the aliens were like or anything.

I liked it and I've watched thousands of films. So what does that make me?

a person who's watch thousands of films, tbh, i found it quite a racist script, and i found the script badly writen... it was a pathetic script that even a kid given a brief of the movie could write. (if they knew how to swear)

its basically based on district 6, which was a black community forced out by white people, they basically classed black people as aliens -.-

No idea what District 6 is, but I know District 9 is the feature adaptation of the director's short film.

District 9 is not racist. Some people clearly took the movie the wrong way.
