As my account is used by someone else now (I still know the password) What stops them from changing the name so that I can't access it?

The display name is not your new username, it is only what everyone can see You log in with your original name.

and even if your username/sign in name did change, jagex wouldn't care as account sharing is against the rules

I like my name so i wont change it , and its rly confusing to check my friends old names and stuff but i guess its kinda cool

I dont play anymore but If i came back I wouldn't change my name as I like it and it would be pretty confusing to some people lol

You have 28 days after your name change, and then 7 more days to get your original username back. After that I think usernames are up for grabs? not too sure.
