It's possible it might be a laptop issue. My laptop has this exact same problem, and it appeared the "battery is incompatible" - how that's possible I don't know
It depends if Dell have their own update system seperate to Windows Update (like Sony VAIO have a VAIO update service).

You need to be careful, my Dell stopped recharging for alternative reasons. My motherboard was feeding back power to the power adapter and zapping them

According to saynoto0870 Dell's support number is 01344 373186 much cheaper than their 0844 number. Just ask for technical support. Give them a ring and see what they say. Of course the agent will want to help you (its programmed into the call centre operators from overseas)
