I went on some random Habbo forum, Hababble, and they have a really nice AJAX script that automatically adds new posts to a thread, without the need to refresh the webpage.

I wouldn't mind if vbulletin was more interactive like this, without having to get adons to do it, someone should introduce them to the gwt:rolleyes:

Yup, instead of a nice CSS style manager central core bit you could tweak, before attacking the templates for any further changes you're now stuck with a stylevar system that is hard to understand.

I'm hoping it's just Beta only things and they'll get a better system out later.... how can they justify selling it at a higher price and leaving in non-functional bits if they leave it in? :eusa_wall

TBH they shouldn't of released the beta this early but the only reason they did it was because people were moaning, all the bugs should be fixed once the gold release is out. So stop moaning.

They released a CMS and intergrated the blog in for 1 price. Fully re-coded the templates system amunxt others, completly recoded how addons work.

Now all licences will not expire until the end of VB Version 4.x.x

They are working there ass off too get it working at a full useable state, there website said its unstable and they don't recomend using it at the current stage.

If you don't like it theres still access too 3.x.x so just use that until the gold release. It will be better than 3.x.x just be patient.

I'm not moaning, I am perfectly aware it is a beta and I've even said that it is a beta and things will be fixed. I am simply saying what is not complete for the people who don't have access. I am also commenting on the way they seem to be going - the style manager used to use a nice intuative CSS manager, instead they now use a stylevar thing that can best be said here:

I was under the impression your licenses did not expire, but to go from 4 > 5 would be another single payment.

They recommend it on a test environment. Which I have done, the point is to try it out and see what is and isn't right and report bugs. If everyone just sat down and ignored it a beta would be completely pointless

Hopefully they will quickly iron the bugs out and move on to the next release within the series, as the Admin CP seriously needs a facelift to match the front end. Now that they have updated the code, hopefully we will start to see improvment.

However, they have gone so far over their predicted dates without their looking like there is much progress I can see why customers are being put off, the CMS still has some way to go (it seems you can't add static pages, just content? or is that just me being a bit special?) and the style does need some work, it feels quite claustophobic to use. They've thrown alot at it, but it's not clear what everything does and the navigator should be AJAX or Java or whatever it is that makes it so when you click on the bigger buttons, the links refresh to show the new ones without the page changing just yet.

Just my current 2 cents, i'm sure they'll be a different 2 cents in a few minutes.

They aren't spontaneously going to rewrite the Admin CP. They are (according to Wayne Luke) modifying the Admin CP slightly over each minor release.

From what I've bothered to browse of vBulletin 4, I like.

Their template system has been fully rewritten so any previous skins from any previous versions will not work. I'm not a fan of their new template variable systems, a lot of vb:raw, vb:var, vb:phrase, vb:if, vb:urlencode. Although their new systems are more secure as they are automatically escaped/encoded. It'll just take a little time for me to get used to.

I wouldn't go as far as to say vBulletin 4 is crap. It's still in Beta, it still has a lot of bugs. I like the fact they used a more CSS-centered layout this time around - it allows for easier changing.

Personally i'm happy with vBulletin 4. I find it faster than vBulletin 3 anyway.

@HotelUser, that is probably Live Topic. It automatically makes a thread "Live" if it has been posted in in X minutes.

Licenses do not expire any more it is a one-time payment for each version. As soon as you buy vBulletin 4, you do not have to pay again for vBulletin 4. The only time you would need to pay is if you decided to upgrade from vBulletin 4 -> vBulletin 5.
