You raise good points though, I've never watched anything Twilight related, and I won't be any time soon either. Looking at that picture you can really see how vampires have come along way from what they used to be. In my mind, THIS will always be a vampire:

Sorry, you'll have to exscuse the fact that the face is Austin Powers, I couldn't think of anyone to put in there.
    vampires wear glasses?

To be fair I don't think you can call the Twilight series "horror" as they're basically just supernatural romances, and True Blood is more of a drama. I think it's more to do with this - vampires being put in non horror films - that's killing them off. Apart from B movies and stuff so independantly amateur even Misawa can't bear to watch I can't think of any vampire horror films of late. I think it was Underworld that really made them seem so soft because they were humanised too much (even more than in Buffy), but if you made a real horror flick with real vampires I'm sure it could still be scary

To be fair, most of the people (at least, who I know) who go to Twilight don't even really care about the fact that the story is about vampires. I don't know if this is the standard, but from what I've heard, every screening of Twilight will be packed full of teenage girls and guys who've been dragged along. I wouldn't go to see that piece of **** for the world.

And I haven't been paying much attention to True Blood because it doesn't seem very gripping, so I can't really comment on that either, but it's probably close to Twilight. I can't actually comment on Twilight because I've not seen it, but from what I've heard, I just know it's bad.

But yes, they have definitely lost their 'horror movie credentials' thanks to **** like Twilight. Truth is, not many people seem to care for scary vampires anymore, and the only way they can be used and still be popular is if they're appealing to teenage girls.

And, after posting this and navigating away from this page, I discover Twilight events are being hosted by Habbo Hotel. Well, that just sums it up, doesn't it?

what is wrong with "girl porn"?

So skinny women with plastic breasts strutting around in their underwear for a music video is acceptable, but twilight isn't?

At least they're not vampires who glitter in the sunlight.

Two different subjects - objectifying women and vampires.

Lost Boys v Twilight. Obvious winner is the Lost Boys, they portrayed vampires perfectly for our generation yet everyone prefers bloody Twilight, its a ridiculously boring love story with an actor who cant act, he just broods constantly and men running around shirtless, genius or what :/

I disagree, although i use films as an example, the topic refers to the very concept of what a vampire is as well as the how the new girl-porn style vampires apparing in a range of media (films, books etc) are changeing this.

In effect, the vampires looseing there fangs

*i'm using loosing there fangs in the more metaphorical sense, a few seemed to have missed this earlier on so i thought i'd clarify

Japan: Theres nothing wrong with "girl-porn", i just dont think it should go around parading itself as a vampire movie
