Yeah but they weren't :S You can't compare the two until that situation you said above happens and even then, it's the 100,000 Derby supporters or so compared to the Millions of Irish people so no it's not the same thing at all.

lol, why should it matter the amount of fans who support which team? That's what the controversy is with already, with france with more supporters than ireland?

i only meant it in jest. I think it's ridiculous the ref didn't see it but i don't really care, the atmosphere was great and it was great with all the excitement! i don't honestly think that the player should be banned or whatever, it just happens in football and im saying that ireland should just let it go. I'd be really annoyed if it happened to england, but nothing's gonna change so stop moaning ireland.

There needs to be standard procedures which allow for certainty. Allowing the irish a replay or even letting them into the cup would mean any future similar cases, no matter how small, would feel they could too appeal. At the end of the day, it's happened, the fact is no matter who it happened to, i doubt it would be any different. And i'm pretty sure theres a few small countries with no huge sponsorships in the world cup this time.
