Rather than having one alone, it's much more common to have two but then only have one descend. I think it is meant to be more difficult to conceive in such a scenario.

With one they still have just as much chance to be fertile. With three I guess one would have to be removed. There wouldn't be enough room? :S

Losing a testicle has very little impact on sperm, testosterone and fertility.

Many testicular cancer patients have one of them removed if the cancer has advanced to a later stage, but they may also have an artificial one in place of it. Men with one testicle can still produce sperm as normal and it doesn't interfere with fertility.
