If you post a max budget I can help - otherwise I cannot. I mean a small budget for me would be £900-£1000 which is why I am asking

Cant get much of a gaming pc for that, however just make sure you look around. Every time I've found a component I want I've always managed to find it cheaper on another site - don't let them put you off with silly deals that don't make sense. I recommend checking out www.aria.co.uk, www.ebuyer.com and www.scan.co.uk. All of these, in my opinion are great sites for buying components peripherals and accessories.

A nice little AMD build would be ok for that money. I'll maybe look tomorrow.

I can get you a reasonable-ish PC that would be alright for games (but don't expect miracles such as a Core i7) for £3-400. But I'm busy this morning, so will post specs later this afternoon.

You'll need a quad core to play GTA IV decently.

This I agree with. You will also need a decent graphics card as well minimum of GTS 250 (NVIDIA) not sure about the ATi equivalent .
Never argue with an idiot, he'll drag you down to his level, and beat you with experience.

I was in exactly the same position a few days ago. as I'm building my own at the moment. Worked out that for something that is good enough to play COD 6 and eve on full graphics with room for upgrades and such it's cost me £550 for the components, £100 for the case and 650w power supply, £52 on a G11 Logitech keyboard and will cost another £150 for another monitor to run with this one. So for a basic computer 300 is enough which was my origional budget but I really suggest going up a noch because the upgrading cababilities will let you use the machine for a good few years. x
