if its got 1Gb of RAM and decent (onboard might do) graphics, you should be all set.

Sorry if im wrong but if you do a clean install for example Windows Home - Windows 7 Professional or whatever as a complete fresh install surely it doesnt matter what windows OS you are previously running, I did Home Premium - Ultimate as a clean install and it went fine? Unless you want to keep documents and programs, a clean install shouldn't require 'Home Premium - Home premium' installation

but home basic and starter aren't available to purchase for consumers anyway. they're designed for developing markets and netbooks respectively.
