You don't pay road tax on any car over a certain age (I think it's 25 years). My Mini was '85 which was 24 years old and I had to pay tax.


Actually I think it's cars registered before a certain year.

Cars BUILT before 1st of Jan 1973. Not registered, so realistically, check to see the build dates of any '73 car.

Yeah they changed it fairly recently I think. Sucks though because now it's a fixed date and that's already 37 years ago (from the date of this post) and that will only keep getting older and older. Was way better having it as just any car over 25 years old.

Volkswagen Polo is your best bet for a car between 1-5k. They're very solid, reliable and a good little runner. My sister's is a 1.0 E, which I probably think will be too small for you? 1.6 may be a bit more nippy.
