If we did that (not sure if it's installable to vBulletin) then the contents of the image would still have to be loaded from a variable within SQL, and transferring the contents of an image via an ASCII transfer is probably not the best of ideasI don't know if its possible to do it, but what if you make the browser do all the "hard work"? Its the data: tag thing.. Not sure if it is possible, so if it isn't ignore this

I'm not crazy, ask my toaster.
At the moment the page is only 1.8MB, assuming everyone on Page 1 of this thread had a 200KB avatar the page size is going to increase to 3.2MB at least, just remember, web pages need to be as small as possible and is really going to screw with people who use phones, I can't stand the "Mobile Theme" so I generally stick to the Summer theme when I'm on 3G or HSDPA, seeing as our Tapatalk idea is dying![]()

that's probably the way vBulletin stores images/ attachments into the database, the issue being that the database size grow drastically and it's a lot slower.I don't know if its possible to do it, but what if you make the browser do all the "hard work"? @ Tom
Well really the mobile argument is not really valid since the main themes are designed for desktop browsing. What would the page size be at 100kb per avatar? Not everyone would have an avatar so large either and most people are on broadband that could easily cope with a minor increase.
Ex-janitor. Might pop in from time to time, otherwise you can grab all my information from http://jamesy.me.uk/
Oh well, i don't mind what happens.. :p
Isn't it just a string though and then the browser does all the work?
