What impact will it have on page loads? - We won't know until we find out.

However I must state that if it does play up the page loading then we won't be having it, we have enough problems with server load times as it is

Yeah it probably will because it'll be a page query - so it runs when the page is loaded, whichever posts are on the page.

Well it will, as I understand it (and my tech knowledge is limited) an extra query will be running per post, hopefully though it'll be a miniscule change that won't be noticable.
