You could agree with them if who ever it is was using the name 'iPod' but they're not. If anyone out there is going to use the words micro, soft, desk, top etc they should be scared right about now as well.

Most likely not. Apple is a competent monopoly; I'm sure they're suing for the name, not the money.

Bear in mind that it's Apple filing the lawsuit, not the defending company. Besides, they've got more money than they know what to do with; I'm sure they'd be suing for more than the court costs anyway.

BIG thank you to the graphics department for making this banner. I LOVE IT!

Many people have mixed views if this is the right thing to do or not in regards of a company sueing another for using "Pod" in one of their products. Now I ask people this question: If Apple came out with Apple iTV (Apple TV formally) then would ITV be in the right to take them to court and what not?

Good question, iTV (internet/individual TV, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imac#Popular_culture)and ITV (Independent Television, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITV) actually do mean the same thing..

It's bad publicity for a company that already has less than polished publicity to begin with.

Well not really - a lot of people would applaude the company for beating apple and showing them how wrong the system is

Grew too big for their boots and treat their customers like scum of the earth. It doesn't help that the actual system itself is too big for itself - by that I mean: Too many features that don't have a use. Lack of old "proven, tried and tested" features which don't work anymore, or not as well as they used to. Traditions have died. All they want is money, which is what a company wants, yes, but at least make it fun for the consumer to hand over the money :/ It's so complex to use, I'm amazed anyone knows how to use it

Any further news on Apple showing off their lameties or is the law suit still brewing away quietly? Hopefully they lose. Pod is a word, not a bi-product from Apple. It's something so simple that for some reason pedantic companies such as Apple fail to comprehend that other companies exist and are entitled to the use of the word for their own product provided it isn't infringing on copyright - by either being called an "iPod" or being of the same physical properties and/or use. Thankfully Europe, the UK and the rest of the world have a real legal system, unlike the American legal system where you can pretty much halt creativity, provided the cash is right.
