I would say if you have known him for over a year kissing and hugging are appropriate.
Normally for me I hug, sometimes kiss. Just depends.

What century is this where holding hands is too far? If I like someone I'll touch them wherever I feel like it

Depends who it is, if it's someone I barely knew, I probably wouldn't go any further than hugging but if I know them quite well I'd kiss them

Also I usually follow their lead
For example my ex took 3 (yes THREE) full dates before he got up any sort of courage and even then I had to innitiate it. Funtimes! ¬.¬

    I'd agree with a kiss. ;D

Im not saying holding hands is too far in the same way sex is too far... holding hands = sign of a relationship, awkward on a first date.

also would be a huge turnoff and would make the girl look mad clingy

Well same sort of dilemma i had i knew this girl from a party, in my friendship group we got talking alot, second month of knowing her we were at a party, we were gonna kiss but got disrupted, then 4th month came round, had our graduation night after graduation party got off with eachother, then she texted me the next day, asking where she stood, and asked if we could go on a 'date' to talk things through, so we went for a walk, and held hands, stopped at a road corner and kissed, and talked more, but i suppose its a different situation but i think holding hands, kissing and hugging is cool for first date, bareing in mind we were good friends though.. but been dating her 7 months so yanoe

suppose a kiss would be alright when you were saying goodbye, type of kiss depending on how far you want to go
