The question is, if you're not good at PC systems, why do you want a custom system?

If you're doing it for a specific reason like gaming then obviously you want to customise it so it's strengths lend themselves to gaming requirements, the reason needs to be outlined before you build a PC system.

That isn't a question - obviously he has a use for it or we wouldn't want a custom build..

I'll glass over the fact that doesn't really make sense, as I know what you mean.

You're telling me you've never bought something just for the sake of it, that wasn't a necessity? My point was, if he thinks about it does he really need a custom built system and will it be put to good use or is he buying one out of a passing fancy.

Considering he is a gamer, then the answer is yes he will put good use in the custom built.

Uh I didn't see your PC specs at all, tiny little text in your sig.

New graphics card, overclock processor, done. You don't ~need~ a full upgrade. Spend the money on some cheese and cheese related paraphernalia.

The only problem with my current is that i'm using a midi tower which gets far too hot and has no room for extra fans. I also don't really know anything about motherboards and what i'd need for a midi tower. I'd rather salvage what I can from my current and invest in a new system.

And for anyone that's asking, the main focus will be moderate gaming (maybe more), along with FRAPsing/video editing, etc. >_<

I am sure Hiro appreciates you trying to help, however you clearly don't know much about computers at all :S

Sony Vaio's are entire laptops/netbooks (I think netbooks anyway, not bg on the portable seen), whereas AMD make GPUs/CPUs (and maybe other things?) but not entire laptops :S

Also, if he wants a CUSTOM GAMING machine he is hardly going to buy a Mac which isn't custom, nor a gaming machine?

Define far too hot, it's more likely than not your computer can run at those temps without problem.

Well, I guess it's just that my PSU is constantly blowing out hot air from the get go, the fans are loud. The only time I can keep the fans at some sort of peace is when I switch my air con on. Overall, I'd just prefer a better gaming system than what I currently have.
A better cooling/fan system, better graphics card (that can actually fit in the case). My PC sometimes stalls on boot, fails to recognise USBs, ports randomly stop working, etc etc. I think I paid £500 for what I have and a friend donated his GTS 250.

    Drivers are up to date.
