Think about what people are into these days and what it would take for something to become the next 'fad'.

That's exactly why there is a market for 2nd hand games, because of trends. People can't always afford to pay the full retail price when the game comes out, and wait to buy it when it's cheaper. It is far easier to hunt down a 2nd hand game on eBay than going from shop to shop. Go check the bidding and you will see what I mean. You should think of something like those "Make poverty history" bands. I remember they came out and then the fakes came out and they were just as popular. I still see them around today.
