I have to hand it to HP though. They released a memo to all retail stores carrying the TouchPad requesting the return policy be extended upto 60 days, and also requested that stores give partial refunds to those whom bought them for expensive prices.
What I can't get over still is that they bought Palm in the first place. It surprised me so much and I thought it would fail in the end. I never once expected HP to do what they're doing now, and I certainly didn't expect a 20% stock drop. I think HP has surprised a lot of people. This firesale as it's being called by many people was so serious it was nigh on impossible to access retail store websites such as BestBuy, Futureshop or even the HP website over here. Boxing day sales here are huge and normally on Christmas Eve the deals begin online. Retailer websites consistently experience downtime due to high traffic during such sales but I have never seen such havoc and scramble even at a boxing day sale, as I have seen these past two days for the TouchPad. I ended up spending countless hours trying to purchase a TouchPad 32GB at the discounted price and when I finally did I later got an email saying my order was cancelled (there was also a lot of that happening as there was some general confusion where some retailers actually ended up sending their inventory back to HP). I finally got another one today directly from HP and also helped several friends nab some for themselves. We were some of the first to buy from the HP.ca site so we're fairly certain we have them in the bag and that our orders wont be cancelled this time around.
As I was saying before there are digital picture frames more expensive than $99. There are 32GB MP3 players more expensive than $149. Ebook readers can go into the $300 range and beyond. Even if I hate WebOS to utter death this was still an absolutely amazing steal. The browser on WebOS has a webkit engine similar to the one in Android so even for a dual core 1GB ram multi touch web browser this was an amazing deal. The fact that there's allegedly already a team trying to fork Android onto the thing is just icing on the cake at this point![]()
