I agree with Publicised. The more you post in a helpful positive way, the more well known you will get and the more members will +rep you in appreciation. We all started off with no rep. It just takes time.

Something here is a great example of how reps given out, you got more rep from this thread than your old helpful post :L . Just goes to show you how far user discretion goes.
