T-mobile, orange and 3 are all the same company, and should be using the same masts with both 3 and T-mobile falling back onto the orange signal.

3 are not part of the same company, it is owned by Hutchison Telecommunications/Hutchison Whampoa based in Hong Kong . Orange and T-Mobile are though. They merged into Everything Everywhere but they both still trade as Orange and T-Mobile.
Although Three + Everything Everywhere do share 3G infrastructure I don't think all of their masts are shared properly yet.

Well the guys in the 3 store and on the customer service line confirmed this around 12 months ago when I got a contact with 3, my phone also falls back onto the orange network.3 are not part of the same company, it is owned by Hutchison Telecommunications/Hutchison Whampoa based in Hong Kong . Edit; Quick research turned out I'm wrong, they have a partnership in the UK, and 3 is buying up orange in some other countries also they have shared ownership of orange and other networks in some countries. They might not be the same company but there very closely tided in business.
