A few hours sure, however you've got to understand some situations people may have been in where it was necessary for them to contact family immediately to reassure them they are safe etc. I know I had to try and contact home today to tell my mother why I was going to be an hour late from getting home from work than what she was expected me. It's vital technology to some.

haha, ikr. Comments like - "you are going to have to do some apologising if you don't want to lose customers.'" - are just ridiculous. If customers leave o2 purely because they had no single for a couple of hours then I will be gobsmacked.

Not the end of the world though is it - arrive home an hour late "why are you home late? you said you were due home at 5 o'clock and its 6 o'clock" ... "sorry mum O2 network is down".

I think people are way too attached to both phones and the internet, its ridiculous some of the reactions of people when technical problems like this happen (and its hardly common).

I'm not talking about discipline, if I was expected to be home and she couldn't get in touch with me an hour later she would probably begin to worry. This isn't even what I'm getting at I just think you're turning a blind eye to the importance of mobile communication in some likely situations.

I don't think some people understand how the world has changed in terms of technology and that people now rely on mobile phones more than ever. It's fine having a few hours of downtime but when it starts becoming a large amount of hours then it's a problem for sure. O2 will apologise either way because it's their problem that they have to fix.

Most of the people threatening to leave are locked into long contracts anyway, so they won't be living in a hurry.

Thankfully I'm with 3 so I haven't had any problems though.

I have been with o2 a while now. Both my parents and my brother are also with o2. My father was the only member of our family that experienced no problems, which seemed rather strange. Anyway o2 were relatively quick to sort the problems, and I certainly won’t be leaving them. On the whole they provide a pretty good service.

I would sooner experience the odd rare problem with o2 than the problems I had with Natwest.
