Loads of people are saying Jobs must be rolling in his grave because of these adverts. They're just short films that aren't showing the full potential of the product. In fact, they seem to be showing off the acting talents of just one person rather than anything to do with Apple - it's like they're giving this person an ego boost. Has he got something to do with Cook or someone high up in the Apple hierarchy? There's no way he's just some randomer.

If you want to look into it further, you could argue that they're making those who buy Apple products look unbelievably stupid. It's never a good idea to advertise the help and support of your service (the Geniuses), it makes it look like the product is hard to use when it's seen as common knowledge that Macs and other Apple products are easy to use and intuitive :/ They're different to the old adverts back in the Jobs era, but my God they're more annoying.

Thought the Apple software line was marketed to be simple and easy to use. Why do you need a 'genius' to direct you if they are so simple and intuitive?

That's a good point, but I suppose the adverts are also about showing the customer care and support Apple can give those who need assistance.

    Not online very often

But that's the interesting thing, it's usually a marketing faux pas to only advertise your product support. They mention the features, but never show them - they only show the Genius. It's like they're trying to tell us their reputation as being easy to use and safe isn't true, when customers across the globe as well as professional reviewers say Macs and other Apple products are easy to use. It doesn't make any sense :/

They probably won't be shown in the UK as they would be against so many regulations, but they seem a huge let down just for existing when Apple can do so much better.

    Update:

Apple has removed the controversial 'Genius' TV spots from its YouTube channel and from the Apple.com marketing page for the Mac. The ads were poorly received with some critics asking if it was a good idea to make potential customers seem clueless. Others thought they were excellent ads that showed non-technical Mac buyers the support options available to them.

Apple stopped airing the ads on television soon after they were introduced during the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics, with Apple's ad agency saying they "were intended only for a 'first run' during the Olympics". They remained on YouTube and Apple's website for several weeks, and only in the past several days were they removed entirely.

Apple does tend to remove older advertisements from its website and YouTube over time, but the company still has ads on YouTube from as far back as November 2010.

Well they were terrible from a marketing point of view. Why would you advertise your help and support using some annoying acting? Making your product look like it needs support and that your customers are stupid is never a good idea. Apple seem embarassed by them if they removed those ads and not their older ones, it's the only explanation.
