I think they're nice looking, although the reason I used the other snowflakes when I designed Christmas 2011 was because they were more discrete (not as in your face), and I tried a bunch of them and found that they weren't that laggy. Unfortunately I find the new flakes to be far too visual when you initially load a page, and they're quite laggy!
I'm not crazy, ask my toaster.
