What I mean by pointless is that he has a very short time to live, so it'd be a waste of space/time/money to put him away. Surely another form of punishment would be more appropriate. Perhaps put him in a secure unit which isn't as brutal as a jail.

The courts might let him off cause of his age, but he still deserves a sentence. If someone murders X amount of people and they're not caught until 50 years later, you don't go "Oh it's in the past it's fine" do you? It was still a crime and he still deserves punishment for it regardless of his age :S

Sums up my thoughts pretty well:
"Csatáry was a small fish. I could name 2,000 people responsible for worse crimes than he was. The money spent hunting down people like him would be better spent fighting the propaganda of those who so energetically deny the Holocaust today."

He should serve time if there's enough evidence of his crime, which there seems to be. Age should be no factor.

Well done for bringing this up though, when I saw this on the news, I thought it would be a good debate

Hope there is sarcasm in this.

Got mixed thoughts about this. It seems like justice was served cold by being brought out too late. He's lived his life, unlike his victims. Would prison really be justifiable? It seems all too little for too late.
