I would class edating as a solely online relationship, and no, I've never done that. There are so many ways to meet people these days it would be ridiculous to exclude meeting on the internet as this very joky and negativity-ridden label.

I've had multiple relationships where I have met the person on the internet and conducted a mainly internet based relationship. My current boyfriend I see very rarely and mostly have an online relationship with - it's just long distance, not "edating".

So if you had a relationship on the internet for 2 years and then met up afterwards etc. you would still answer no to 'Have you ever e-dated?' - I mean, it would no longer be e-dating, but you would still have e-dated in the past.

Also worth noting that nowhere in the post does it suggest that I'm being negative

Nope, personally I'd say "I met my boyfriend/girlfriend on the internet and after 2 years we met up". Everyone's entitled to their own opinion and understanding of the matter though - I tend to notice a correlation between understanding and those that have experienced it/with friends who have. People who seem to disparage it and aren't very nice about it are those that have no understanding, whether through sheer ignorance or just unwillingness to accept difference I don't know.

Using your example though, at the time during the 2 years that person might want to class it as e-dating, because that is a substantial amount of time to be officially "in a relationship" without having a physical relationship which is a big deal for the majority of cis (by that I mean non-asexual/aromantic) couples, but by your OP it looks like you're insinuating that any relationship that began on the internet and ended up real-life would still be classed as an "e-relationship".

You're totally reading it wrong. I'm saying if you had a relationship that started on the internet, then it is e-dating. It doesn't matter where it ended up, it was still e-dating at some point.

Your logic is like me asking: "Have you ever been to France?" and you saying "I did when I was 6, but because I'm not there now, I've never been"

yup a few times but I never instigated it and guess just went along with it for the sake of it, nothing special really came out of it aside from me being far more cautious and backing off if I feel like I'm getting too close to someone online now.

I've had both relationships that have remained solely online and relationships that have gone from online to irl. I class both of them at e-dating at some point as you can't say for certain it'll turn into something more until it has done.

Got no problem with people who do it either, I'm doing long distance right now but I see her every month for a weekend at the minimum! Theres a lot of Skyping and what not so kinda feels like edating but no big deal ^_^
