Some people seem to think that if the merge didn't happen, Habbo would still be a booming business. They are wrong! Now you're going to ask why?

So, I may be a little bias or insane to think this but it's because of Technology!

Back when I and many others started playing Habbo I didn't even have a computer or mobile phone, let alone a smartphone which has multiple applications to socialize on.

idk but back in the days before the merge and before habbo tax was introduced, habbo's sg/my/ph was fine and it has a lot of online users. tbh i really like the community before. maybe because sg and my are both really close and we feel like we belong to the social setting, and communication was a lot of easier considering both countries have our own similar lingo and along with the ph merge was fine too

It was the pointless mute that killed off most of habbos users. They didn't even need to do the mute, just moderate it better!

I doubt that they'd be empty or boring as some of the people before me have said. I don't think that the merge had too much to do with the number of habbos online. It has more to do with the Great Mute of 2014 after the Channel 4 incident, that's when Habbo lost much of its fanbase. If the hotels were still separate it would be different for sure. Back in the day there were a lot of different hotels and they were different in so many ways - starting from the staff to the badges they handed out to the events they hosted etc. That's totally a cultural thing. Also since there were so many different hotels, if all of them were still open today then yes, some of them would be empty but the main hubs such as habbo.co.uk and habbo.com could easily be thriving. As far as the communities go, the difference would be that globally there are different trends around the world - when the US are a fan of one thing then at the same time the UK might be crazy about something else entirely. Therefore the things habbo can feature would change accordingly. But in general, if there was no pedo incident and perhaps smaller merges within separate timezones (.ca merged with .com etc) there is no reason that the different communities wouldn't be thriving. It's obvious that habbo has a target audience - teenagers, but the world isn't running out of those. The general habbo userbase is constantly growing, it's just the active members that are switching, the circle of life in a sense.
