    If our society is like it is right now, people saying they will not get their kids a mobile phone until they are 13 or something are being ridiculous.

    I would probably let them have one when they start high school. I don't think they would technically need one while in primary school. Wouldn't know the answer for sure until I had kids and they started buggering me to buy them one!

    Would leave it until they were in secondary school like my mum did for me and it would be a basic phone just for calling and texting.

    I'd consider a mid-range phone at the time when they hit the age where they're more independent. Phones can be useful in more ways than calling/texting nowadays it seems silly to give them a phone which is limited to that, especially with the rise of messaging apps which are far better to use than SMS.
